The course featured 29 participants coming mostly from European countries and 20 expert lecturers that contributed to lively interactions among the group. Most of the participants were young professionals already involved at several levels in the nuclear field. This highlights the growing interest from the industry about nuclear safeguards topics.
Following the success of previous editions, the course delivered a rich programme mixing theoretical lectures, practical group exercises, and laboratory visits. Lectures were given by leading experts in fields such as nuclear material accountancy, legal framework, and non-destructive assays. Exclusive technical visits to the linear accelerators at JRC-Geel and the HADES underground research laboratory near the SCK CEN technical domain offered a unique opportunity to connect theory with real-world examples.
The organisation of the course benefitted greatly from the support of the staff of JRC-Geel and SCK CEN, with both institutions offering remarkable contributions to the preparation and delivery of the course. Additional financial support was provided by the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials – ABACC and the ENEN2plus mobility grant scheme, which enabled several students to take part in the course.
